How would you describe steampunks to someone who had never heard of it ?
- Steampunk is a style of fiction having to do with a semi - fiction world, where old machinery from the victorian 19th century is still being used. Technologies that were new or important to the victorians, such as steam powder , clockwork , or electricity, are big themes in steampunk. Many Steampunks spend lots of time sewing their own outfits, or collecting their own accessories such as hats and goggles.
Where and when did steampunk start?
- Steampunks were published in the 1960s and 1970s, The term steampunk originated in the late 1980s . There have been people making and wearing steampunk clothing and gadgets since the 1950’s. The ( steam ) part of the word, describes the fashion and technology of the steam Age and Punk. Suggests departing from socially accepted behaviour.
Why was it called steampunk ?
- Mr. Jeter wrote a letter to Locus Magazine in April 1987 where he used the word steampunk to describe his book and other similar books by other authors. These books used futuristic machines that use steam age technology. Steampunk is a word that was coined in the 1970s to describe stories that celebrate the adventurousness and technological progressiveness of the Victorian Era.
What makes something look steampunk ?
- To look steampunk your style of clothes would be similar to which was worn in the ( Age Of Steam ) . From the mid 1800s to the early 1900s . Additional Extras Like Goggles , Helmets , Armour & Weapons, and decorations that include Tubes , Gears, Dials Cogs . Anything that looked like strange things made from steam engine technology.
This is interesting Paris - I didn't know anything about Steampunk or its background so this was a good read.
